The challenge....to create a site that that is warm, inviting and embodies the spirit of the environmentalist, disseminates voluminous information easily, is rustic, yet contemporary enough for today's technology. Quite a task!

One of the questions I am often asked is how I translate the desires and wishes of a client into reality. It takes a lot of thought on the part of the client....and the ability to express those thoughts. It then becomes my job to translate those thoughts into graphics, layout, color, and function.

The design style I tend to lean toward is quiet ....soft, inviting, and relaxing.... a casual sophistication. You will not find pages that scream at you, or graphics that vie for attention with the content. Graphics are meant to enhance a site...make it more visually interesting.

Many times the layout of a site is determined by the content. How many pages? What are the topics? What type of navigation system can be utilized to make it easy for you, the surfer? And as the questions continue....a picture of the site develops in my mind. Then it's off to the races....first the graphics, then the layout...and slowly the site emerges....an entity in it's own right, with a life of it's own.

Who am I? Professionally, I am a LAN Administrator for a large east coast bank, but Web Design and Graphics are my passion. My website is my playground, an arena of learning, teaching and sharing. Every spare moment away from my job, is spent in front of my computer, perfecting my craft, as I am sure my friends and family will attest! Additionally, I am a member of Board of Advisors for Turtle Island Institute, a member of the Digital Divas, a moderator for the Cyber Crew, the Graphix Group, and manager of The True Spirit of Diana and Kokopelli Spirit WebRings.

The best use of this particular column, would be to answer questions that you may have regarding design or graphics. So drop me an   E-mail , and I'll do my best to give you an answer in the next issue. Do you have some spare time on your hands? Are you a whiz at HTML? If so, then you can help make a difference by "volunteering" (yes, Virginia....that means no pay! ) to help maintain this site or the Turtle Island Institute site. Please either contact   EcoPilgrim or me.

There are some exciting things planned for the next few months...so be sure to check in.! I hope you all enjoy and share the site with your friends and family. May this year bring us all closer to peace, enlightenment, and environmental awareness!

A bientot!
