Love Letter to the Earth
by James Hubbell

O Earth         shout
You must sing to man
Of hope and love.
He must know he will not die alone
You are his eyes
His heart.

Come with me trees
And grass,
Wind
And stream

You must leave the mountains and
Walk among men
You must walk in the cities,
And soften his heart.

Tell him that life is not fear,
but wonder
That breath is not will,
but worship.

Come with me mountain
Come sunlight on sand
Come lizard and sage
Come wind and clouds
Soft leaves and the fox
There is not much time.

Like a tide to smooth all doubts
You must all come
Tear away the wall
Let the flowers bloom within.
Let hate pass.

Wash the grayness from our eyes
We need your help
You must all come

My brothers and sisters
Put down your books, your toys
You must look into the trees
You must look into the mirror
or the wind.

Or there is no hope.
