INTRODUCTION TO OUR VIRTUAL CAMPUS

The virtual campus for the Turtle Island Institute is in its formative stage.

The idea here is to bring together persons knowledgable in areas related to the mission of the Turtle Island Institute, e.g. ecotravel, indigenous culture, sustainable development, biodiversity preservation, conservation planning and development, etc. so that we may begin to design educational/ information courses that can be presented to both the ecotraveler and the indigenous communities they visit through a distance learning network or presented in face-to-face workshops, seminars, and conferences on the satellite campuses in indigenous communities internationally. These satellite campuses will take the form of ecotravel lodges and may be developed in already established ecotravel lodges approved by TII as a satellite campus, or they may be newly developed lodges developed under the guidance of Turtle Island Institute consultants. TII is currently working with   Lifetracks to develop satellite campuses in Tanzania, Puerto Rico and Costa Rica. Satellite campuses are to be established mainly in Third World Countries or in Indigenous Communities in the United States and Canada where they may be of benefit to those in need of assistance in developing viable communities.

Volunteers need not have a degree, but must be able to demonstrate proficiency in their area of expertise. If you would like to become a chairperson of a Department of the Turtle Island Institute and contribute your efforts toward helping others through education, please contact the:   Director.
